Well thank god for that. Christmas is now behind us all and we can focus on the proper business of life once more. Just the small hurdle of new years eve to clear and we are on the home stretch back toward spring and blessed summer. Is there anyone who genuinely values new years eve as a good night out any more? Really…I would love to know.
Since 2000 my local pub has seen fit to charge me £10 to queue up to spend money at their bar, greet drunken strangers at midnight, and wade knee deep through a river of piss to the toilets. Every other night of the year I am allowed to do this at no additional charge.
Christmas and New Year represent a week’s holiday in the sun for occasional drinkers. Those of us who take our drinking seriously despise this time of year. Clear the yelping fools from our bars and let us get back to the serious business of hoseing our lives up against the wall.
Gambling tip: Anyone who fancies a seriously risky outside punt- stick £10 on Sunderland to stay up- we are crap but I have a feeling (I may edit this post in a week or so).
